CPS, a subsidiary of US-listed Net1 UEPS Technologies, was awarded the unconstitutional R10 billion SASSA grant payment contract in 2012. Used its access to 17 million beneficiary records and biometric data to cross-sell funeral policies, airtime, and loans — often without informed consent — deducting payments directly from grants before beneficiaries received their money.
