As Minister of Public Enterprises (2014-2018), Lynne Brown appointed Gupta-linked individuals to the boards of Eskom, Transnet, Denel, and SAA with disregard for official vetting processes. The Zondo Commission found she was central to the capture of Eskom and Denel, describing her testimony as "ludicrous." She lied under oath about her relationship with Gupta associate Salim Essa, who investigators found had a "hotline" to her. Despite these findings, no criminal charges have been filed. In 2025, she returned to an ANC advisory role in the Western Cape.
