Allan Boesak was a prominent anti-apartheid cleric and ANC leader. After liberation, he was convicted of stealing approximately R1.3 million from the Foundation for Peace and Justice — donor funds from Danchurch Aid, Coca-Cola Foundation, and Paul Simon intended for apartheid victims. He used the money for luxury houses and a TV studio for his wife. Sentenced to 3 years in 1999, he served just over 1 year before release. President Mbeki cleared his criminal record in 2005.
