Zondwa Mandela, grandson of Nelson Mandela, was a director of Aurora Empowerment Systems. His name — carrying enormous political and moral weight — was deployed alongside Khulubuse Zuma's to lend credibility to the BEE mining venture that instead destroyed R1.7 billion in assets and left 5,300+ workers destitute. Declared a delinquent director by the North Gauteng High Court. The use of the Mandela name to impoverish the very Black workers BEE was supposed to benefit became one of the most damning symbols of crony empowerment.
