The Zondo Commission found "reasonable suspicion" that he received free security upgrades from Bosasa at three homes (Boksburg, Cala, Khowa) "knowing that this was done to seek, through him, influence in terms of the departments that Bosasa did, or sought to do, business with." Mantashe claimed the upgrades were a personal favour from a "family friend" — Zondo rejected this because Mantashe "failed to make contributions whatsoever of his own." Court challenge to Zondo findings dismissed October 2025. Also found by the Makhanda High Court to be "biased in favour of the oil and gas industry" in the Shell Wild Coast seismic survey ruling.
