On 30 April 2013, a chartered Jet Airways flight carrying approximately 200 Gupta wedding guests from India landed at Air Force Base Waterkloof — a National Key Point — for the private wedding of Vega Gupta at Sun City. The landing was facilitated by Chief of State Protocol Bruce Koloane, who re-designated the wedding entourage as an official Indian delegation. The incident, dubbed "Guptagate," was the first major public exposure of Gupta influence over the South African state. The Zondo Commission later found Koloane was the "key figure" and that it was "alleged that former President Zuma is the one who ordered the flight to land." Rather than face consequences, Koloane was promoted to Ambassador to the Netherlands.
